We plan to do a rather classical tour, avoiding too much mileage , so we will skip completely the South of Namibia + Skeleton coast : we prefer to spend between 2 or 3 nights in the same accommodation, in order to explore parks thoroughly. We could have included Caprivi Strip, places like Ngepi, Divundu (Okavango area) , but there again, we thought it would be too many miles . We prefer to concentrate on National Parks like Etosha or Naukluft, because one member of the group is really keen on animals. On the other hand, I would be interested to see a Ovahakaona tribe but I read that they are near Epupa which is too far really. Never mind…
So I have thought of the following itinerary + campsites for the trip :
We plan to leave Windhoek early to mid-afternoon on Oct.26, after some quick shopping at the Grove Mall + Klein WIndhoek Schlachterei for quality meat (if we can make it !) , heading towards Mariental.
Lake Oanob Resort or Kalahari Anib campsite in Mariental : 1 night
Little Sossus campsite in Sesriem : 2 nights
Blutkuppe campsite in Namib Naukluft National park: 1 night
Swakopmund: either airbnb flat in Langstrand or Alte Brücke campsite: 2 nights
Cape Cross: we think we shall skip. Instead we’ll drive straight to
Spitzkoppe tented camp : 2 nights Then Madisa or Mowani campsite: 2 nights Then Hoada campsite in Grootberg or Oppi-Koppi in Kamanjab: 1 night Then Etosha: Okaukuejo : either Okaukuejo NRW campsite or probably
better Etosha Trading Post campsite near Ombika 3 nights Then Etosha East side (Namutoni) either Sachsenheim guest farm
or Onguma Tamboti campsite : 2 nights Then Gerus guestfarm in Hartseer (to combine Waterberg Plateau
and Okonjima Leopard track) : 2 nights Finally Windhoek: Urban camp + dinner at Joe’s beer house : 1 night
At the moment we are still undecided between 2 options for the 1st day, one including Mariental/Kalahari with overnight at Lake Oanob or Kalahari Anib campsite and the other option where we would drive directly from Wdk to Sesriem via Spreegtshoogte Pass and Solitaire (we have noticed a campsite near Solitaire, called Sossus on Foot or, if we can’t make it, we could stay in Gecko Campsite). Any idea/suggestion on this? The road from Wdk to Solitaire via the pass is supposed to be a bit dodgy in places, but very scenic !
So altogether we should not exceed 3500 kilometres.
