Bonjour,A partir de seprembre, je vais réaliser un stage aux Etats unis, suivi d un semestre d étude en université anglophone. J ai déjà de très bonnes bases en anglais (langue que j étudie depuis 7 ans), mais pour me rassurer et gagner en assurance (notamment à l oral et dans l anglais d entreprise) et en vocabulaire, j aimerais trouver un manuel ou autre que je pourrais étudier pendant l été. Lequel me conseilleriez vous ? Ceux que j ai consultés jusque là sont trop axés sur la grammaire ou reprennent des bases qui me sont inutiles…

Rather than use a manual or some such, I recommend you buy a few children’s books and read them aloud. The vocabulary will be actual standard English and not a stilted effort to find a particular lexicon. You can choose the level of difficulty by picking anything from a book for very small children to one for teenagers or adults. By reading aloud you will force yourself to say - and hear - the language.
Anything by E. B. White such as “Charlotte’s Web,” “Stuart Little” or “The Trumpet of the Swan” would work. They are written for children 9-12 years old and are fun stories - almost everyone knows Charlotte’s Web.

The Narnia series would be another good choice.
Perhaps the Harry Potter books if you want something for a bit older vocabulary?
Mark Twain’s writing should also be considered: “Huckleberry Finn,” “Tom Sawyer” or “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” are good examples. 12 - adult.
