Thailand, Cambodia reach visa exemption deal 02/09/2006 -- 17:14(GMT+7) Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand and Cambodia have reached an agreement to waive visas for their official passport holders and signed a memorandum of understanding on sharing information and cooperation in radio and television. The signings were made at the fifth meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Committee held recently in Phnom Penh. During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the progress of the bilateral projects, which involve education, culture and tradition, health care, environment, drug combat, tourism, investment and labour. Thailand and Cambo-dia will finish demarcating their 798-kilometre land border this year and move to complete sea delimitation next year. This is the first time that both countries have set a timeframe, Foreign Minister Kantathi Supa-mongkhon said yesterday after co-chairing a Thai-Cambodia Joint Commission meeting in the capital of Cambodia. The land demarcation project has dragged on for years due to technical differences over maps and methods as well as landmines. Kantathi said his Cambodian counterpart, Hor Nam Hong, proposed at their meeting a halt to demarcation activities while talks moved to other issues. “I didn’t want to see the work suspended so I proposed that both countries separate land from sea demarcation and set timelines for them. Cambodia agreed to the proposal,” he said. Both countries also discussed the launching of a “single-visa-for-five destinations” project that would eventually cover Thailand, Cambo-dia, Burma, Vietnam and Laos. Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to use the single visa first and the rest will follow when they are ready. Hor Nam Hong said both officials would meet later this month. The visa would be implemented between the two countries in April. Both countries are well aware that the initiatives of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy to promote tourism in Indochina, including the single visa project, could open the door to transnational crimes such as terrorism and trafficking in drugs and people. The two neighbours will increase their cooperation, including exchange of information, on suppression and prevention of transnational crimes. The two countries also signed agreements on information and broadcasting and exemption of visas for official passports. Achara Husbumrer, deputy director-general of the Public Relations Department, said the two countries would boost ties between their radio and television media. “The cooperation could include the exchange of visits and information between both media and the organising of training to increase more understanding and work efficiency,” she said. Thailand has similarly co-operative arrangements with Vietnam, Brunei and Malaysia. Kantathi said Thailand would extend the deadline to the end of this year for illegal migrants to register with authorities. The campaign was aimed at counting the population of illegal workers. visa à l'aéroport de Siem ReapPosté par marie le 20 mars 2006 à 16:38Bonjour Est-ce que l'un d'entre vous sait s'il est toujours possible d'obtenir son visa pour le Cambodge directement à l'aéroport de Siem Reap. Il était question que cela change d'après des infos que j'avais l'année dernière et je cherche à savoir si c'est toujours d'actualité ou pas... Merci de vos réponses. Marie
